May half term activities to inspire and entertain at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

News release issued: 12th May 2008

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will be hosting a range of activities, to inspire, to entertain and to intrigue visitors during May half term.

There will be a programme of workshops, have-a-go activities and tours, which will also incorporate Museum and Galleries month as well as the chance to view a new exhibition.

A new special exhibition, Sea Your History: 20th Century Royal Navy, recently opened at the Royal Naval Museum, will offer visitors the opportunity to discover the very personal and experiences of the Navy’s real people. The exhibition, which opened at the end of April, captures images and testimonies of the people of the Navy in combat and under stress, doing their day-to-day work, at rest and play, at home and abroad, at sea and on land - during a century of almost continuous conflict and rapid technological and social change.

Inspirational ideas are the focus of national initiative Museum and Galleries Month taking place from 1st May – 31st May, which this year, has the theme of Ideas and Innovation. Taking advantage of the Historic Dockyard’s vast heritage, visitors will have the opportunity to discover innovations from history that have helped to shape the world today with a variety of activities, including investigations of Tudor medicine at the Mary Rose Museum and free talks at the Royal Naval Museum.  For a full listing visit: www.historicdockyard.co.uk/events
